Garden: BramasoleBramasole is the famous estate of Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun and Bella Tuscany. Mayes describes the restoration of her estate and the gardening she does there in several bestsellers. Mayes was a proponent of the locavore lifestyle long before it had a name, advocating eating fresh local produce (either grown or bought in town) and eaten in season. Bramasole produces its own high-end olive oil for sale.
Garden: Fairview Christian Church GardenFairview Church Garden was on the Kansas City Urban Farms and Gardens tour for 2009, July 28! We are a community vegetable garden(using organic practices), Youth Garden 50 x 50, supported by the Missouri Extension office and Missouri Master gardeners, some raised bed areas with flowers and vegetables, 4 plots for local gardeners, roughly 20 x 20 with main garden about 340 x 40, growing tomatoes, mostly hierlooms, (cherokee purple, amana orange, carolina gold). We also have Peppers(bells, jalapenos, anahiems, cherrys), Eggplant, Kale, Swiss Chard, Corn, Potatoes(purples, pontiac, klondike), Greenbeans, Squash, Cucumblers, Okra(burgandy), Kohlrabi, Broccoli, Cabbage, Sweet Potatoes, Beets, Onions, and Garlic. Whewwww.... we have a few herbs...Dill, Chives, Parsley, Basil(green, christmas, red) Horseradish, Mint(chocolate and apple), lastly Borage. Flowers such as marigolds, zinnias, petunias, and nasturtium.
Garden: The Backyard GardenI envision this 13' X 14' piece of land to be my little urban farm. This year I have:

Garden: Yancy's Gardentomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, squash, watermelon, cucumbers, green beans, purple beans, strawberries, asparagus, peppers, cilantro, garlic, basil, dill, corn. eggplant. I'm saving seeds to plant for next year. Also growing lemon seeds and apple seeds. Grapes and more.
Garden: my garden (very mixed)I had restraining walls put against a hilly, crumbly rocky area from which I removed some old trunks (others, well underneath are still there. The worker used local stones in a rustic way to create four levels. I had a large area left at the bottom where I planted fruit trees, salad, basil, strawberries in hedge form, The middle level is a kind of long planting box used for herbs, large succulents, annuals, some flowers from bulbs. On the top level I planted blueberry and blackberry bushes. The bottom most level is used for the vegetable garden and other fruit trees. There is also a planting area around the perimeter of the property-a two family house where there are forsythia, lavander, roses, lantane, gladioli, spring bulbs mostly already there.
Garden: Black Beach TerraceIt's my big terrace in Playa Negra, Chile...It's still under construction, since I arrived here only a few months ago. My plants were first suffering a lot with the direct sun, but now I built a nice tent to rest under and all my plants love it.
Garden: Paxton GardenLaura and John are growing vegetables and herbs this summer! Paxton Garden is a container garden on an east-facing balcony in the suburbs of Chicago. We have planted tomatoes, green beans, spinach, arugula, Swiss chard, broccoli, lettuce, strawberries, green garlic, basil, cilantro, oregano, parsley, and lavender.

Garden: Solace CornerA very small garden, but well-kept for my amateur gardening standards. There are 5 palm trees, 3 on the outside of my fence and 2 inside. Mixture of sorts: 3 different coloured bougainvilleas, basil, savila, passionflower and "copa de oro" vines cover the front fence for extra privacy, banana, chaya, papaya, various others of which I dont know the proper name (despeinadas?), bird of paradise,etc.
I would like to put more colour into the garden, and maybe some vegetables in conatiners. Any suggestions for the area? Tulum's soil is not very fertile, due to the fact that the Yucatan Peninsula is a huge shelf of limestone. I usually bring back more fertile earth from inland areas. Digging can sometimes be hard because of the huge quantity of rocks that can get quite big.
Garden: My Little GardenMy garden is a little bit of everything. Although there is a lot of space to work with, I've tried to bring some of home (Minnesota) to my garden for my children. It has western grass in the middle, edged by small planting spaces that I've created with brick borders. There are two lilac trees, to remind me of the smells of spring when I was a boy. I grow seasonal berries, like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries in some of the individual plots, and vegetables such as onions, tomatoes, broccoli, garlic, cucumbers, cabbage, etc. In others I grow flowers, such as roses, tulips, daffodils, and so on. And I also raise herbs, lavender, marjoram, thyme, basil, rosemary and mint. All together, I average about 150 different plants, either potted or planted in the soil.

Garden: Craig's organic disorganised plotI always plant tomatos but with varying succes as I have no glass house and live in Christchurch NZ. Yams are a perrenial favourite and I treat both silverbeet and rocket (the herb) as essential. I also take pleasure in garlic, basil, celery, chives, Blackboy peaches, walnuts, spuds,radishes, Feijoas, Maori chief potato, Black currant, Raspberries, Strawberries, parsley, to name most of this seasons effort. I also seem to specialise in the unwanted vegetations such as dock, chickweed, shephards purse and numerous other un-named varieties...
Garden: Daniel's Victory GardenMy garden is primarily one with vegetables: tomatoes (all varieties, about 20 plants), eggplant, sweet green, yellow and red peppers, summer squash, zuchinni, bush cucumbers, brussel sprouts, beets, lettuce, broccoli, sage, chocolate mint, spearmint, rosemary, oregeno, basil, parsley, and chives. I also love bulbs, flowers of all types, and have some raspberries and strawberries.
Garden: Cambodian Seniors' Gardening ProjectIn 2006, the Cambodian Seniors Nutrition Program of the Asian & Pacific Islander Older Adults Task Force initiated a community gardening project to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for the seniors participating in the nutrition program. The Mt. Camel Cambodian Center agreed to host the garden at their site in Long Beach, California, which has the largest population of Cambodians in the U.S. The garden is tended by senior volunteers from the community.
A variety of herbs and vegetables are grown in the garden including many that are native to Cambodia, and aren't easy to find in mainstream markets. The senior gardeners enjoy growing things they like to eat, such as ngo om (rice paddy herb), hot basil, ngo gai (saw leaf herb), basil, white basil, kapucha, cucumber, fuzzy squash (fuzzy melon), and bitter melon.
Garden: Gabi's Veggie PatchThis year I am growing herbs (thyme, basil, parsley, coriander, curry, lemon grass, oreganos and mint) for my cooking fancy, tomatoes (plum, beefsteak, Marmande and cherry tomato varieties),cucumbers, courgettes, broccoli, eggplants, lettuce, runner beans, honeydew melon and raspberries. I also have a lemon & lime trees, 2 avocados that haven't given any fruit yet, a guayaba and an apricot tree. I am also experimenting with seeds from a japanese square watermelon variety that a friend of mine gave to me.
Garden: Carrigkilter FarmWe are trying to grow veg in what is normally a very wet climate! ( started 2009) - Most of the pumpkin/squash rotted! We hope to plant wildflowers around the basic lawns and we'll put in a couple of raised beds to save our poor old backs! Tony and I like to experiment growing different produce and varieties and challenging the weather!
Garden: Preston Raised Vegie GardenJust over 16sqm(?) distributed in four equal sized sleeper-raised garden beds on the Southern side of the house - conversion of the original driveway. Loosely-based on the Square Foot Gardening principles, each bed has a varied collection of seasonal produce at any one time, including flowers and herbs. Watering is almost solely achieved via laundry greywater, soil is kept productive via a combination of a ~50ltr worm farm (converted stone basin) and two compost bins (one stationary, the other rotating).

Garden: Our GardenWe're building a garden from a scrap waste patch behind our cottage that the landlord was going to concrete.
We're taking a very slow, permaculture approach because we've discovered that from where we're starting, we have approx. 6" soil which is a mix of waterlogged mud and heavy clay, onto the old, C16th cottage floor. We're spending little bits on the garden as and when we can and we're cultivating cuttings from local hedgerows and plant-swapping.
Our initial plan is to cover as much of the breeze-block wall as possible with flowers and then build raised beds (ideal as I have spine injuries) from the rubble that we've pulled out so far, in which we can far easier manage the soil quality.
Last year we had success with carrots; onions (bedford champion); lettuce (lollo rosso) raspberries; roses; cucumber; lavender; and various herbs. We have also introduced a laburnum as a standard and have a little patch of lawn chamomile that's struggling valiantly.
This year, we've decided to take a side-step in direction and focus more on growing berries and dedicating the rest of the garden to our birds. We're also hoping to attract more butterflies and bees - especially as there are swarms literally vanishing in our area & we'd quite like to bring some back and maybe start a colony of our own.

I love gardening, and am always gardening in other peoples gardens. I live in a flat and haven't felt like I could invest a lot in the back garden, because I keep thinking Im going to move. Hence, everything I am growing are in pots! I do intend to plant bulbs later in the year, and grow a collection of herbs, because I will use them.
I have five beach trees in pots at my mother's house, which will have to be put in the ground either this or next year. I rescued these from the ditch of a farm my partner was selling. I am always rescueing plants... in fact appart from the basil (which I bought), and the cactus (inherited from a previous relationship), I do believe I rescued every other plant I am taking care of!
Only yesterday I rescued my friends tomatoes from her encrouching nasturtiums, and supported them up with bamboos. I also watered another friend's tomatoes before they withered up last week.

I am working towards self sustainability. I have solar heated water, solar power, rocket shower, and energy free water pump or ram pump, organic veggie garden and all of this in one of thÉ most beautiful places in the world. That is for sure!
I am siyuated in Goso Forest, Gwexintaba, Lusikisiki. It is not on the maps of GardenJot so far away. It is about half way between Durban and East Londen.
Food being grown success full in my village before i came here: Corn, pumpkin, beans, sweet patato, potato, and dumbi.
Veggies: 4x Beans, Cherry Tomato, 4x Pumpkin, Butternut, Gemsquash, Carrot, Onion, Kale, Eggplant, Beetroot, Green Peper,
Herbs: Thyme, 2x mint, basil, red sorrel, 2x wild garlic, coriander, 2x lavender, origanum, ginger,
Special: Comfrey, MaryGold, Nasturtiums, Worm Wood,
Trees: Moringa, Lemon, Orange, Banana, Fig, Pawpaw, Avocado, Cherrie guava, Garlic tree.
Fruit: Melon, Watermelon, Gooseberry, Strawberry and Ghogie berry. (not sure of this spelling)
Challenges! Goso Forest and all the insects in there!! Seems like we have more here! Sjoe.

Garden Photo:My herb garden - my favourite garden, I think. I love the scents, and it is an amazing attractor of insects of all kinds. It is simply alive on a sunny day! I have many varieties of thyme ("Doone Valley" creeping thyme in foreground), "Primrose Heron" lamb's ears (coloured golden green instead of silver, and hard to find), santolina, a very old sage (Salvia officinalis), African blue basil, bronze fennel, English and Spanish lavender, and many more.
