Bert's Gardens
Title:
2008 was first attempt at gardening here. 2009 was exciting to see what returned in the perennial beds. Sun exposure ranges from full to no sun. Definitely a work in progress :)
Wow!!! I think I saw my garbage can blow down the street and into the lake!!! We are in the midst of a winter storm, and this is just wind. The snow is coming from the Colorado Low. Took a few pics of my winter garden before being burried by a foot of snow :)
Short of some last minute clean up (how do earwigs find every nook and cranny to climb into in solar lights???), the outside gardens are done for the year :( Our season is wayyy to short. So, now I get to focus on my indoor gardens :) Pics of my Grandmother's Christmas Cactus (snow came early and so did the blooms!). This plant must be 40 - 50 years old. I thought that I had killed it six years ago, when I brought it to my house from Grandma's apartment. Apparently it was just resting... pining for the fjords... well, anyway, I am so excited that it is in full bloom and more gorgeous than I have ever remembered. Does anyone have any tips on how to transplant a 4foot diameter cactus? It needs to be in a pot with drainage.
Broke down and watered the gardens this morning. Everything was looking so wilted. Been hot with only a heavy dew for humiditiy. So hard to prepare for the coming winter when it feels like everything just started to grow :)
Came home from my shift to the spendour of a lily :)
hmm... a little glitch in the system... will get it sorted out soon.
Thanks much Bert. Very nice work even you have started gardening not long ago. I really like your pure white Azalea and dancing Garlic Chives; the Spirea bush is so delicate also. Yes, sometimes I spent my weekends in my previous garden from dawn to dusk. Really enjoyed it. Happy gardening and keep growing :)
I am with you on strawberries--they are wonderful to grow! Our strawberry plant's 2nd year was great; we'll see what year 3 brings or if we'll need to replant. From a fellow 'newbie' to gardening :)
Wow. More great flowers. I have the same Stella D'oro Daylilly. I just planted it this year and already some great blooms. Isn't it lovely? I really like your blue delphiniums too.
Just noticed that you are having trouble growing periwinkle. I have transplanted it to two different place. I usually just dig in a sprig near the roots of a tree and leave it. Try to keep my husband from weed whacking too assiduously near the tree bases. In each case, it took nearly 15 years for the periwinkle to build up enough to produce flowers and spread a bit. But I love it under the trees.
A few pics of the gardens today. Off to help Mom with her gardens. Will have to start a post for her beautiful gardens :) My poor neglected plants... only the tough survive :D
... check out Mom's Cottage Gardens. Was working on them with Mom last week. So little time... so many wonderous plants :)
What do you do with your lavender. I have two types as well and so far, I walk by, pick a few sprigs and smell them. Haven't gotten far enough to use the lavender in any way.
