Today was all about the soil :) Double Dig'd a 2X12 portion of the garden, removed the straw mulch to have the soil attract more heat and cleaned up some Shrubs and Berry bushes. Hardening off the Brassicas, Leeks and Onions, I started 4 weeks ago. Planning on a sowing fiasco in the cold frame tomorrow :)

Everyone should now be hopeful when it comes to cold-frames :) In other words, there shouldn't be a single hesitation to get yours up and running! If it doesn't work, you could always ventilate the structure in the summer and make it a greenhouse for peppers and eggplants! If it doesn't work, there's a good chance you'll have the opportunity to do it again next winter, but better! It costs less then $50 dollars to make and lasts about 4 or so years before the glazing needs to be replaced. ($5!) Going to take an inventory of my heirloom and Wild-Crafted Seed for a trading event on the 19th of February. Carpooling in the morning up to Goodwood, to visit Richter's Herbs! In the Afternoon We will be trading seeds, wisdom and common interests! Looking forward to learning some of the local techniques gardeners are using in my area and of course seed varieties that can satisfy a picky palate. Thanks for Stopping by! Happy Germinating!

My cold frame is aliiiivve!!!! I spent about 2-4 hours on the more detailed design and a half hour on the simple one. They BOTH WORKED WELL!! Surprisingly, I thought they had all died with the extreme low temperatures and literally gave up on it, to tell the truth. This morning, I went in the frame to find so much green! Arugala, Spinach, Boston Lettuce, Parsley and even the Strawberries are still green! What can I say but wow!

I looked up Brassia Maculata on Google Images, and not alone did you get the name right, but your photo equals any on there, if not betters!
And I have Finally taken your advice and ordered some Diatomous Earth....have been searching garden centres on my travels, but ended up paying more for P & P from the U.K. than it actually cost...no matter!
Things wonderfully busy in what's being a great summer...must put up pics one day. Blue Skies! C.

The dwarf frogs are neat. you say "aquarium". Does that mean the vivarium is something else?

After seeing your picture, I have been wondering if "Vivarium would be a good name for a 35 foot sailboat. A large part of my joy of sailing is discovering plants, aquatic life and wildlife along the BC Coast as well as the Gulf Islands off of Vancouver Island... and my name is Vivian...

Yes plan everything on GRAPH and in PENCIL!! Making mistakes is okay if you can fix em! Reclaimed some windows for a studier frame as my successful one is showing signs of near collapse with this all this heavy wet snow fall. Making some space under the grow lights to accommodate the new arrivals is a whole other dillema! Cant wait for the Cinnamon Basil and Ground Cherry Tomatoes...Grow Aerogarden Grow!!

Planning on graph paper such a good idea - we are trying to be more organised this year but failing miserably - too busy watching the skating, ski cross and curling! Our landowner/farmer has just ploughed us an extra patch very kindly - photo on soon! Can you plan ours, please?! Only joking - I know how busy you are. Watched the GMO vid. and learned a lot - thanks!
